The consort MAAYAN
was established in 2010 on the initiative of the singer Anna Jagielska-Riveiro. Its repertoire contains music from widely understood Jewish culture: Sephardic, Hebrew and Yiddish songs.
These songs are performed in original languages maintaining the proper style and ornaments, but the arrangements of the pieces, which refer to ancient and traditional music, are at the same time the consort’s own, modern vision.
The way the pieces are played is the efect of joining different musical worlds: ancient music, ethno, folk, classical music and jazz. The music is performed on ancient, traditional and classical instruments, which is an exceptional mixture and makes the consort sound unique.
The premiere of the program: „MAAYAN – Colours of Jewish Music” took place in May 2010 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw and then in November in the Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw took place the premiere of the Program “DOS AMANTES – Sephardic songs with Klezmer notes” in the range of the project UNDER THE SKY OF SEFARAD.
